FAQ

Hypnobirthing & Sound Therapy

What is Hypnobirthing?

Hypnobirthing uses methods from hypnosis in order to prepare you for the most natural and painless birth possible. It enables you via deep relaxation, visualisations and breathing techniques, to alleviate the fears, anxiety and apprehensions around giving birth. It provides an excellent complementary holistic care to your medical follow up with your midwife.

How many weeks pregnant do you advise starting the sessions and until when?

You can start the hypnobirthing and sound therapy sessions anytime from 16/18 weeks until the very end of your pregnancy. The baby can start hearing sounds between 16 and 18 weeks pregnant hence why starting before would be beneficial only for you and not for the both of you.

How many sessions do you recommend during pregnancy?

This really depends on why you are coming. If you’d like to work on some fears, physical pain, apprehensions or anxiety linked to giving birth, I would recommend between 4 to 5 sessions will help you to alleviate those negative feelings/emotions.

If you are coming for deep relaxation, a moment to yourself then you can decide as you go along with your pregnancy.

Can I come with my partner?

Yes! If you would like to come with your partner, the hypnobirthing part would be adapted to the both of you and not only focused on the birth of your child (ie: welcoming the new baby in the family). Those sessions with your partners are great as they can mark a conscious beginning of a new dynamic in the couple or family.

Can I listen back to my sessions while giving birth?

Yes you can. With your approval, all sessions are recorded, that way you can listen back to the hypnobirthing and the sound part as each session is tailor-made to your needs.

How is Hypnobirthing different from Sophrology?

Hypnobirthing and Sophrology are both using relaxation and altered-consciousness techniques however, they differ in their state of awareness and therapeutic goals. Sophrology focuses on dynamic relaxation and awareness, keeping you fully in control to manage everyday stress. While Hypnobirthing accesses the unconscious part of your brain to resolve deeper and more specific emotions, fears. This also works with positive emotions, meaning that, with Hypnobirthing you can visualise for instance the ideal birth of your child, alongside positive emotions which will have a deeper impact on your brain and body the day of giving birth.

What does a session look like?

Sessions last 1 hour and 45 minutes. At the beginning of each session, we discuss your needs and identify any specific topic or area you would like to focus on.

Then, once you are comfortably settled, you are guided by the sound of my voice into beautiful hypnobirthing visualisations. I then play Tibetan singing bowls, inviting you to journey and let yourself be carried by their harmonies and frequencies, leading you into deeper relaxation.

At the end, you are gently invited, at your own pace, to return to the here and now. There is always some time at the end of the session if you would like to share something or if not, some time for yourself to stay in silence and slowly prepare to leave.

Do you come to my house for these sessions? Where are they held?

I can come to your house in some specific cases however, if you are able to travel and due to the weight of the Tibetan bowls, all sessions are held in Prenzlauer Berg either at my space or at the Centre Pensées Praxis. I’m equipped with everything for you to be comfortable (pregnancy pillow, blanket, etc.).

Then, I then play Tibetan singing bowls, inviting you to journey and let yourself be carried by their harmonies and frequencies, leading you into deeper relaxation.

Finally, you are invited to come back gently to the space. There is always some time at the end of the session if you would like to share something or if not, some time for yourself to stay in silence and slowly prepare to leave.

Hypnosis

I’m interested in hypnosis but also scared at the same time to lose control or for someone else to have the control over me

This is a very common fear as we have this image of hypnosis as pictured in a circus or cinema. However, the hypnosis used in therapy is totally different and it is a misconception that the person who leads you into a hypnotic state will do what they wish.

While in a hypnotic state, there is still a part of your brain who controls what you do. Despite being in an altered state of consciousness, you are still aware of what you say and do therefore, there is no fear to have.

Can I book an online session?

Yes. Having led several hypnosis sessions online, I can assure you that they are as beneficial as in person. However, if you are based in Berlin and able to travel, coming to my space for a hypnosis session is always better.

If you would like to book an online hypnosis session, please make sure you have a stable internet connection, that you are in a space where you can sit comfortably and where you won’t be disturbed during an hour.

Hypnosis for Pregnant women

For pregnant women, should you wish to only work on alleviating fears and anxiety around giving birth, I also offer private hypnobirthing sessions only. Please contact me directly so we can discuss this further and adapt to your needs.

Do I need to prepare anything before the session?

No you don’t for the first session. I will just need your personal information beforehand. For the following sessions, I might recommend some tasks (introspection exercises, journaling, etc.) however, those are optional.
